From Hamilton NY Republican 12 Aug 1875 [at Colgate University Library, courtesy Burt Goodrich]

On the 7th inst., at the residence of Dea R.W. Hartshorn, occurred a reunion of the family of Ryal Hartshorn. The children, vis: R.W. Hartshorn, Amos Hartshorn, Asa Hartshorn and Mrs. J. Morgan, of Lebanon; William M. Hartshorn, Mrs. Laura Curtis and Hannah Hartshorn, of Hamilton; Mrs. S.C Cosner, of Xenia Ohio; together with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren were present at the old homestead. [Lebanon farm]

Twenty-three years had passed since they had met together, and, scattered as they had been from New York to California, it was not strange that this meeting, unexpected as it was, should awaken such touching and tender memories, and that tears should mingle with all the joy and gladness. Mrs. D.A Curtis, of Toledo, Ohio, daughter of Mrs. Laura Curtis, added much to the pleasure of the occasion in furnishing, by her fine musical culture, delightful music, after which the youngest brother, William M. Hartshorn, made some very appropriate remarks, which would tend to bind still closer the bonds of love and union that had existed unbroken and unchanged through so many years. May there be many happy returns of this kind and may they at least meet, an unbroken family in that Home, “Over There.”

Asa’s Parents

Ryal Hartshorn b.1789 d. September 28.1857 married in 1819 to Joanna Kingsley b.1799 d.1864

Joanna Kingsley was the daughter of Rev. Amos Kingsley, one of the 13 founders of Colgate University. The Rev. Kingsley has a photo displayed below

Lebanon Center Baptist Church

The Lebanon Center Baptist Church was moved to the village of Lebanon in 1890. A photo was taken prior to the move of the entire membership, and a list of the names was inscribed on the back. The photo, and the names list, were scanned by the author-webmaster. In addition, a section was zoomed-in which shows Asa standing at the far right in a white beard and hat, while next to him is his nephew, Arthur, who was holding the reins of a horse. Arthur later was elected a NY State Assemblyman and held other distinguished offices while owning a farm near Hamilton NY, and more on him is elsewhere in this website. That farm was later taken over by his daughter and was named H H Scott and Sons, and looked like a show-place on Route 12b a few miles north of Hamilton.
